Warrant of arrest issued for murder suspect

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said Shabangu was the last person to be seen with Mbuyazi

EMPANGENI SAPS has secured a warrant of arrest against Thomas Vusi Chavango (Shabangu), believed to have been involved in the murder of his girlfriend, Mbali Mbuyazi.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said Shabangu was the last person to be seen with Mbuyazi in Matshana reserve outside Empangeni in November last year.

“On 26 November, Chavango (Shabangu) allegedly took Mbali from her place of residence, and that was the last time she was seen alive by her family,” said Netshiunda.

“Mbali was 40 years old. After an intensive search, her body was found buried in one of the farms around Matshana on 23 December.

“We are seeking the assistance of community members in locating the suspect. Shabangu’s warrant of arrest was issued by the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court on 13 June.

“We urge anyone who may have information as to his whereabouts to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Sikhumbuzo Mabaso on 078 5072182/082 2272058 and 035 9071940, or contact the toll-free crime stop number 08600 10111,” he said.
