Suspects outrun police

Police conducted a crime intelligence-driven operation

Three suspects on Friday abandoned their load of dagga, cellphones, and their bakkie to evade arrest.

Police reports indicate that in the morning, police conducted a crime intelligence-driven operation in the Pongola area.

Zululand Cluster police spokesperson Captain Nkosie Gwala explained that their members had been tipped off about a vehicle with eSwatini registration, which was carrying a consignment of dagga.

“Police followed the information, which led them to a certain homestead,” said Gwala.

“While [the police were] approaching the house, three suspects noticed them.

“They got out of the bakkie and fled on foot, leaving the vehicle idling with the keys in the ignition; three cellphones inside, and 14 bags of dagga.

“Police gave chase but could not catch [the suspects].

“The police confiscated the bakkie, as well as the cellphones and 14 bags of dagga weighing about 271kg,” she said.
