Doctor gunned down in Bay

Empangeni clinical psychologist murdered in ‘hit’ attack.

CONDOLENCES have been pouring in following the shock murder of Zululand Professor Humphrey Ngcobo, who was shot several times in what appears to be a ‘hit’ in Richards Bay in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Professor Ngcobo (47) was reportedly leaving Bhubesi Guest House at Mzingazi after a graduation party at around3.10am when he was approached by an unknown male.

‘The suspect, wearing a pinkish apron and a woman’s hat fired several shots towards him. He was fatally wounded and rushed to Netcare The Bay Hospital where he later died,’ said Empangeni SAP Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose.

No arrests have been made and police are urging anyone with information leading to the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward.

Professor Ngcobo was a clinical psychologist based at Life Empangeni Garden Clinic and had previously headed the Psychology Department at the University of Zululand.

‘It is with great sadness that we mark the sudden and tragic passing of Professor Ngcobo,’ said management and staff at Life Empangeni Garden Clinic on Monday.  ‘He was a man who gave so much of his time and of himself to his patients.  He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he had touched. Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones in this time of sadness.’

  24. Words fail me in a time like this! I don’t understand how someone can kill such a vaulable person in our society! Prof was a good person who wouldn’t harm anyone.

Had a smile that brightened a room. He was my lecrurer at Unizul back in the day. He loved and took pride in his Job he would lecture us for a good hour not looking at a book. Showing that he came well prepared to do his work! We have little people of this calibre nowadays. He also helped a close friend as a therapist, went beyond his call of duty to help her. You will be missed Prof Ngcobo you have inspired me to study hard and follow my dreams. I can only hope that I will at least be a quarter of a person you were. Your legacy lives on. The department of pychology suffered a great loss. Rest in Peace Sphiwe Mapholoba! You have touched our lives in a good way. We will always love you.

Justice must be served here. Aluta continua
