WATCH: Why motorists should never cross a low-level bridge in flood

Bakkie swept off causeway into raging river

A VIDEO circulating on social media platforms perfectly depicts the dangers of attempting to cross low-level bridges across rivers in flood.

The video shows a bakkie being swept into a raging river after the driver attempted to cross a low-level causeway.

It is not known where the video was filmed, but there are many such causeways in the Zululand region.

And with the extent of flooding seen both in the Zululand region and inland, all rivers are expected to be fast-flowing and swollen for the coming week as rainfall from flooding inland gushes downstream towards the coast.

Motorists should also refrain from attempting to drive across flooded roads, as it is impossible to see potholes or other potential dangers like sinkholes or roads that have washed away.
