Crime scares investors from Hlabisa town

Business robberies are deterring potential investors from the area - Hlabisa mayor

THE high levels of crime in kwaHlabisa are frightening off the town’s potential investors.

This is according to Big 5 Hlabisa Mayor Comfort Khumalo, who made this statement at the municipality’s recent Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and budget roadshow at Hlambanyathi hall.

He noted that business robberies at retail stores were deterring potential investors from the area.

Khumalo urged the local police to improve their visibility and consider what could be done about the police station which is situated far from the centre of town.

Last year’s riots and looting were also cited as reasons for the impacted local economy and unemployment.

However, there was some positive news to share as major retail stores and other businesses are being developed.

“Other areas being developed are stalls for vendors and a taxi rank which we hope will boost our local economy,” Khumalo said.
