Fire guts two Grade R classrooms at eSikhaleni school

uMhlathuze Fire & Rescue arrived promptly on scene but were unable to save the classrooms

DESPITE arriving promptly at the scene, City of uMhlathuze fire fighters were unable to extinguish a blaze at Exhaphozini Primary School in eSikhaleni’s J2 section before it reduced two mobile Grade R classrooms to ashes.

The blaze occurred earlier this evening (Wednesday).

School Governing Body (SGB) chairperson Bongani ‘Jobe’ Sithole said community members notified him of the fire.

“After hearing the news, I immediately called the fire department who responded quickly. I thank all members of the community who were trying to put out the fire before the fire fighters arrived on scene,” said Sithole.

He said, at this stage the cause of the fire is unknown and they hope SAPS will conduct a thorough investigation to establish what might have led to the blaze.

“We have already notified the King Cetshwayo District Department of Education and they have promised to attend to it tomorrow morning, said Sithole.
