Police operation nets almost 8 000 suspects in KZN

IN a bid to strategically combat crime across KZN, the province’s police have embarked on a number of multidisciplinary operations targeting a variety of crimes.
In June, 7 992 suspects were arrested in the province for various crimes.

A total of 2 407 were arrested for contact crimes which, broken down, includes 210 arrests for murder, 112 for attempted murder, 204 for rape and 1 055 for assault.
Drugs such as heroin, mandrax powder, cocaine and dagga were also recovered and seized by the police.
Four hundred and eighty liquor-related arrests were made, while police also seized 262 illegal firearms and 3 321 rounds of ammunition.
All firearms seized have been subjected to ballistic testing to determine if they were used in any other crimes in South Africa.
During this period, police and security companies also intercepted many criminal groups.
