AN off-duty eShowe female police officer last Monday arrested a man for possession of an unlicenced firearm at Mahhekeni area in the Nkanini reserve.
Reports indicate that the officer had attended a wedding in the area, where she overheard two men sharing tips on how to kill someone with a gun.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said the off-duty officer monitored the two men.
‘She later noticed that one of them had a bag. She called him into the garage as if she wanted to send him somewhere.
‘In the garage she introduced herself as a warrant officer and requested to search the bag.
‘The suspect initially refused to comply, but the officer insisted.
‘He then opened his bag and a firearm was found. The suspect failed to produce a firearm licence, and was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm,’ Mbhele said.
The suspect appeared at eShowe Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and was remanded in police custody for further investigation.
‘He is expected to appear on Wednesday for a formal bail application,’ she said.
