The project to build the block with four classrooms is spearheaded by the Eshowe Community Action Group (ECAG) as part of uplifting the community and the school.

‘The story behind the four new classrooms goes back 40 years, and has connections to the Zulu royal family.

‘The money paying for this building work is raised overseas, although local donors have also contributed substantial sums. The two most regular contributors are the de Johanna Bode Trust based in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and Africa Classroom Connection in Michigan,’ said the group.

ECAG has built more than 3 000 classrooms in rural Zululand schools, providing children at under-resourced schools with a better environment in which to learn.

This year they have provided three classrooms at Emkhandlwini Primary in the Ntambanana district, and another three at Thango Primary in Mtubatuba.

Five more classrooms were built at Ehlanzeni Primary in Richards Bay, while three more classrooms are currently under construction at Ekwakheni Primary in Mtubatuba.
