Enter Eskom’s small business investment competition

Prizes for this year’s competition are valued at R1.3 million

THOUSANDS of rands are up for grabs in Eskom’s 2021 Business Investment Competition (BIC) open to all SMMEs owned by previously-disadvantaged black individuals.

The competition provides a platform to South African SMME owners to ‘become part of a community of like-minded entrepreneurs as they look to build on their businesses’ solid foundation and realise their true potential’.

Eskom Development Foundation (ESDEF) CEO, Cecil Ramonotsi said the annual competition, launched in 2008, has become even more relevant the past year, with small businesses struggling to stay afloat amidst the economic pressures created by Covid-19.

‘The impact realised through this business investment initiative over the 13 years has been exceptional,’ he said.

‘Although cognisant that much more interventions are still required for the sector, Eskom is proud of its efforts towards supporting black-owned emerging enterprises.’
