No payment to queue at SA Post Office

SAPO has learnt that self-appointed 'queue marshals' are asking beneficiaries to pay a fee for services or to jump the queue.

The South African Post Office (SAPO) has condemned opportunists who are asking customers for a fee to secure a place at the front of the queue.

SAPO has learnt that self-appointed ‘queue marshals’ are asking beneficiaries to pay a fee for services or to jump the queue.

These practices are illegal as no SAPO employee or private individual can ask for such payments.

SAPO has advised customers to not only refuse payments, but to consider laying a charge of bribery and corruption at the nearest police station or to contact the Post Office’s toll-free crime-buster hotline on 0800 020 070.

The caller has the option of remaining anonymous and all calls are followed up.

Recipients of the R350 Covid-19 relief fund can opt to have the grant paid to their Postbank account, accessed with a Postbank card, so they don’t have to visit every month.

This account can be arranged at the post office. Customers are reminded to adhere to all Covid-19 regulations when visiting a branch including wearing of masks, sanitising and social distancing.
