This year’s walk will be a virtual event – with a twist! While the official date of this year’s Walk away from Drugs is Saturday, 4 September, participants will have two weeks (28 August to 11 September) to complete the walk – with pets welcome!

Zululand schools are encouraged to register and participate in the virtual event, with each school able to set its own route on or around the school premises. This makes participation easier, with entrants walking at their own leisure in the two-week timeframe.

Sanca also encourages businesses, government departments, healthcare workers and police officers to sign up and join in.

How to enter

Registration via the Sanca website www.sancazululand.online and follow the bright yellow online registration prompts.

As a fundraising event for the NPO, the entry fee is R50 for adults and R20 for children under the age of 12.

During the walk, participants are encouraged to take a selfie or two, or a photo of the family or school group, and post it on Facebook using the hashtags #KnowingYorFacts #SavingLives.

Prizes and trophies will be awarded for the best banner, the oldest and youngest participants, the largest family group, the school with the most number of entries, and even the best pet participant.

Everyone who registers will receive a medal, which can be collected at specified collection points after the event.

Anyone who registers without paying for the walk will not be eligible for a prize.
