The uMhlathuze Municipality has also kicked off its mop-up operations in all affected areas.
‘As of today, the municipality will apply a double-shift system in tackling the waste, and work day and night for two days, going back to normal schedule on Saturday.
‘The assessment shows that it is mainly the shopping centres, the CBD and malls which are mainly affected in eSikhaleni, Empangeni, eNseleni, and Richards Bay suburbs including Meerensee and others,’ said City spokesperson Mdu Ncalane.
‘Residential areas are experiencing a backlog on the normal waste removal.
‘The city has plans in place to deal with such backlogs, and urges community members to bear with the situation until it returns to normal.’
