Six suspects killed in Mtubatuba shootout

Police spotted the heavily armed men and stayed on their trail as they proceeded to Mtubatuba at around 6.30 pm, and attempted to rob Roots Butchery next to Mtubatuba Spar.

SIX men were shot dead in Mtubatuba on Friday (yesterday) during an intense shootout with the police.

Last week, the POP Provincial Tracing Team, CI covert and Special Task Force received information that a group of suspects were planning to commit a cash in transit robbery in Empangeni on Friday.

The criminal’s plans were aborted after the CIT vehicle did not arrive.

Police spotted the heavily armed men and stayed on their trail as they proceeded to Mtubatuba at around 6.30 pm, and attempted to rob Roots Butchery next to Mtubatuba Spar.

A shoot out between police and the suspects ensued.

Six suspects were fatally wounded, while the police sustained no injuries.
