ZRC employee Linda Cebekhulu has been manning the school’s zebra crossing for 15 years
LINDA Cebekhulu, known affectionately by the children at Empangeni’s Zululand Remedial Centre as ‘Malume’, has been manning the school’s zebra crossing for 15 years.
He loves children which makes his job all the easier for him.
‘You have to love your job to be able to do it properly, especially at a school as you have to get onto the same level as the children for them to understand you and listen to you,’ he said.

The learners at ZRC, as well as children from other schools who pass by on buses, love ‘Malume’ as they scream his name from their bus windows or high five him on their way passed.
Linda’s job is not all sunshine and rainbows though, as some impatient motorists curse at him if they feel he is taking too long.
But he knows he is keeping the children safe and smiling.
