Ezemvelo festive season visitor turnout holds firm
While provincial reserves have remained open under the amended Level 3 Covid-19 lockdown, a number of recreational activities at Ezemvelo resorts have been affected
EZEMVELO KZN Wildlife’s resorts have reported only a minor decline in visitor numbers over the festive season.
Smaller resorts such as the uMlalazi Nature Reserve recorded a 1% drop in visitor turnout during the period starting on 15 December.

‘Last year the average was around 40% compared to this year’s figure of 39%.
‘The bigger resorts, however, were close to 50% on average,’ said Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife spokesperson, Musa Mntambo.
While provincial reserves have remained open under the amended Level 3 Covid-19 lockdown, a number of recreational activities at Ezemvelo resorts have been affected.
‘All recreational water activities at closed facilities are prohibited, with the exception of permit fishing.
Only anglers in possession of a valid permit or exemption granted in terms of the Marine Living Resource Act will be allowed, provided they are not accompanied by family or friends,’ said Mntambo.
‘All open game drive vehicles operating within Ezemvelo’s jurisdiction are only allowed to carry a maximum of 70% of their carrying capacity.’
Tourists undertaking guided or unguided walking trails have been urged to maintain social distancing and adhere to all the safety protocols.
