Richards Bay Covid violators pay the price

If found guilty in court, suspects would face the consequences of having a criminal record

BETWEEN New Year’s Day and yesterday (Monday) morning, 10 people were arrested by the police in Richards Bay for offences relating to the Disaster Management Act regulations.

Violations included failure to wear face masks, loitering and not adhering to curfew times.

Six arrests were made in Meerensee and two each in Mzingazi and Richards Bay CBD.

The tally included four public transport occupants in one instance, and two in another.

Two suspects appeared in the Richards Bay District Court on Monday while the others each paid a R300 fine.

A senior police officer warned that, if found guilty in court, suspects would then face the consequences of having a criminal record.
