Alleviate threatening blood shortage by donating today

Blood shortages can reach critical levels over the festive season

Traditionally, December is a difficult time for the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) to collect the prescribed minimum of 3 500 units of blood a day, needed to treat patients.

Limited access to corporate blood drives and availability of donors are among the reasons.

Already facing shortages by not being able to meet its required five-day supply quota, fears of critical shortages are imminent if blood collections are not met to sustain the country over the festive season.

Covid-19 has kept the blood bank out of public spaces, but companies, churches, community centres and public organisations are urged to help SANBS get their mobile clinics up and running again by booking group donations or by hosting blood drives to allow the SANBS to reach more donors.

The Richards Bay Blood Donor Centre in the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre can be contacted on 035 7893610.
