Countdown to Spar National Netball Championships

New look Spar Netball Championships to be held in Bela-Bela

TEAMS competing in this year’s SPAR national netball championships between 7 and 12 December at Bela-Bela in Limpopo will play in a ‘new look’ event this year.

The prestigious tournament that normally takes place in August, was delayed owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, but after Netball South Africa was given the green light by government, the championships bounced back onto the cards for 2020.

Organisers will use the Zwartkloof Resort with its eight courts as the venue for the tournament.

Forty teams will compete in the U20 and U21 age groups, with a further 20 senior teams lined up for battle.

There will be no C section this year.

Eight teams will play in the senior A section and follow a round-robin format, ending with semi-finals and a final.

All participants have to undergo a Covid-19 test 24 hours before the start of the tournament and if positive, self-isolate to prevent the spread of the virus.

The resort will be turned into a bio-bubble, as the tournament will take over the resort in order to limit social interaction.

South Africa will host the 2023 World Netball Cup.
