SASSA’s online grant application portal still in test phase

The self-service method can be accessed through computers and cellphones

WHILE the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) earlier this week rolled out an online grant application portal, it is being tested only in certain regions.

According to SASSA, it will cover child support, foster child and senior citizens’ grants, but during the test phase will be restricted to the uMsunduzi (Pietermaritzburg) area only.

The online system will provide grant applicants with much relief as it will spare them the inconvenience of standing in long queues at local offices.

The test phase will run until 25 September and the self-service portal can be used from a computer or mobile phone.

The turnaround time is 10 days, provided the candidate supplies all the stipulated documents linked to the application, such as identity documents of applicants and spouses, as well as banking details, among others.

Applications can be submitted on https://services.sassa.gov.za.
