Zululanders weigh in on the move to Alert Level 1

The wearing of face masks, sanitising and social distancing remain in place and citizens are urged to continue to adhere to these measures

#Level1Lockdown is trending on social media this (Thursday) morning as South Africans celebrate one step closer to freedom.

Announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa last night, the implementation of Level 1 at midnight on Sunday brings with it some major changes, including the reopening of our country’s borders – albeit under certain restrictions – and changes to mass gatherings.

While most South Africans have welcomed the impending changes, some are sceptical as to the wisdom in allowing larger gatherings to take place.

Under Level 1, the 50-person limit on gatherings will be scrapped and venues will be able to fill to 50% capacity, not exceeding 250 people at indoor venues and 500 people at outdoor venues.

The ZO asked your opinion on the move, and here are some responses:

Absolutely it’s a wise move. So it’s up to us to be responsible and take care of ourselves. Mask on, as well as sanitiser as agreed.

We have learnt enough to know what to do and what not to do. So it is absolutely up to us to make this work.

My honest opinion is that SA isn’t doing too badly with its situation. Definitely behind in terms of precautions and security. I left SA last week and stopped over in Ethiopia (which is slightly behind SA economy-wise) but precautions and security measures were a bit more orderly.
Thailand, however, being one of the top five countries to have recovered, are still very strict and regulations and rules surpass SA by a long shot. People are able to move freely, however, face masks are still compulsory worldwide and they also have distancing rules etc. Airports are shockingly empty, so they are just following the rest of the world.
Although we as South Africans think it’s a little over the top with our regulations, I can assure you, that all parts of the world are doing the same, even more so. The president is protecting our country, which I can now see, he’s doing a great job at trying to sustain and curb the virus. It’s a scary world out there at the moment, frustratingly so, but believe me, it’s for everyone’s own good.

I think our country needs to go back to normal eventually, we cannot continue living like this forever.

Coronavirus is here to stay and people must learn to keep themselves secure, that’s all.
