New court dates for cases postponed during lockdown

Accused persons, complainants and previously subpoenaed witnesses must contact the relevant court for a new court date

THE KZN Regional Office of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development urges all accused persons, complainants and previously subpoenaed witnesses to check their new court date appearances at the courts where their cases are being heard.

The Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services spokesperson, Chrispin Phiri, explained that the department’s request is directed at the people involved in cases that were postponed during lockdown alert levels 5, 4 and 3.

Phiri said new dates can be obtained by visiting the court in person or by contacting the court manager at the court where one’s case is on trial, before 21 September.

‘Warrants of arrest which were previously authorised will be stayed, their execution will only be effected on those who fail to secure a new court date by 21 September 2020,’ said Phiri.
