IFP Women’s Brigade calls for stronger action on gender-based violence

Local IFPWB chairperson said communities have been educated on the danger of GBV, yet nothing has changed

THE IFP Women’s Brigade in uMhlathuze (IFPWB) has called on the government to deny bail to those accused of gender-based violence.

This was announced at the IFPWB prayer meeting, held in Udondolo on Friday, forming part of the Women’s Month programme.

Local IFPWB chairperson, Zodwa Mkhize, said communities have been educated on the danger of GBV, yet nothing has changed.

‘Women and children are being abused and killed daily,’ she said. ‘This has got out of hand.’

As part of the programme, the organisation conducted door-to-door interventions recently, where they discovered a number of women were battling to survive.

‘We met a woman living in a wooden shack, in need of assistance,’ said Mkhize.

‘We also found another woman who had lost everything in a fire.’

The organisation is building a two-bedroom home to assist and, along with local councillors, has donated clothing, blankets and groceries to those in need.
