Richards Bay resident fuming over dumped fish

Besides the wastefulness, Elize is concerned about the health hazard and the smell as the fish rot

A VELDENVLEI resident is fuming after – not for the first time – finding a large number of fresh fish dumped in a greenbelt at the suburb.

The fish, which might have ended up there after some fishermen cleaned out a deep freeze or a ski-boat hatch, were all packed into plastic bags.

‘This is the third time I have seen fish dumped here, near the garage, and I think it is a disgrace that fresh fish which could have been healthy meals for the poor is simply wasted like this,’ said Elize Jordaan.

‘Why not give it to someone in need, especially at this time when people are starving?

‘And of course, those fish could have been returned to the ocean when they were caught.’

Besides the wastefulness, Elize is concerned about the health hazard and the smell as the fish rot.

‘I’m hoping the authorities will take note and do something, or that someone, who has information about who did this, comes forward.

‘Even more, I hope the culprits have a change of heart and rather donate the fish to the many organisations who would welcome such a gift.’
