Richards Bay leopard rumours run rife

No solid evidence of the pit bull attack was forthcoming after hours of searching the literal and online terrain

RUMOURS ran through Birdswood last (Monday) night, faster than a leopard chasing down its prey.

Search parties took to the streets after reports that a leopard had ‘ripped apart’ a pit bull, close to the area where a Yorkie was taken last Sunday evening.

Chasing the originator of the Facebook scare story proved as difficult as spotting the elusive animal.

No solid evidence of the pit bull attack was forthcoming after hours of searching the literal and online terrain.

Eventually, it appeared as though imagination had run rife, with everyone sharing what they had picked up elsewhere as the usual online circle progressed.

Having received calls that the leopard was twice seen at their doorstep, Woodpecker Inn management saw a marketing opportunity and prank leopard images from another source – again sparking the online world into panic and sensation mode.

All of this, of course, does not bode well for the leopard/s that have lived covertly among the Richards Bay population for years.

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife this morning confirmed the footage as having been downloaded from the internet and called on residents to check with Ezemvelo before sharing such posts.

They said that all photos and videos shared until now have been followed up and that no dog incident last night has been confirmed.
