WATCH: Humpback whale beached at Maphelane
The conservation authorities were notified of the stranding
AN 11-metre long Humpback whale was found washed up on Maphelane beach early this (Wednesday) morning and is said to be in poor health.
The whale was first noticed by NSRI St Lucia Station 40 on launching their vessel for early morning training.

‘We launched our boat near the scene where the whale had washed up,’ said NSRI station commander Jan Hoffman.
‘We immediately notified the iSimangaliso Wetland Park and the SAPS of the stranding.’
As the whale was assessed to be in a poor state of health, the authorities had no choice but make a decision to euthanise it.
