Ulundi mayor urges residents to pay their bills

Ulundi Municipality is one that is heavily indebted to Eskom

DURING his recent budget speech, Ulundi Mayor Wilson Ntshangase urged residents to pay for their municipal services such as electricity and refuse collection.

‘Residents owe Eskom about R100-million. For this financial year, we have set aside R8.5-million to repair electricity stations to ensure that supply is not interrupted.

‘We are among those municipalities that owe Eskom and we urge residents to use electricity sparingly,’ he said.

Ntshangase said the municipality has adopted new strategies to ensure effective collection of revenue owed to it.

‘We will disconnect all illegal connections and those of consumers who fail to pay their bills.

‘We will also embark on an electricity box audit, and if it is discovered that a meter box has been tampered with, our technicians will check and calculate an amount of electricity which had been illegally used.

‘We have made payment arrangements with Eskom to ensure they keep our account up to date,’ Ntshangase said.
