City of uMhlathuze licensing department now open

The Motor Licensing Bureau will provide motor vehicle licence renewal services for those that expired during the lockdown period only

THE uMhlathuze Municipality’s licensing section opened its offices today (Wednesday) and will be operational until 1pm daily with limited services.

While the city understands the huge backlog caused by the Covid-19 lockdown, it has to adhere to regulations and health protocols as prescribed by the Department of Transport.

Only three cubicles will be open.

Customers will have to undergo compulsory temperature checks before entering the facilities, while the wearing of face masks, hand sanitising and maintaining social distancing must be adhered to.

Eye testing is prohibited and applicants will have to consult with their medical practitioners for this service and bring along proof of their eye tests.

Owing to limited space inside the licensing section and the social distancing rules, customers will have to queue outside before being allowed in.

Two queues will be demarcated for motor licence renewals and driver’s licences.

Customers are also reminded that payments are cash or bank guaranteed cheques if transactions are more than R1 000, and they are urged to ensure they bring along all relevant documentation required for any application, to avoid delays.

The public can call 035 9075456 for Richards Bay and 035 9075650 for Empangeni for enquiries regarding these services.
