Police continue to crack down on people contravening lockdown regulations

The liquor was seized around midday as members of the Empangeni K9 Unit and Richards Bay SAPS continued with operations around the city

TWO people were arrested in Alton on Wednesday for contravening the lockdown regulations and found in possession of a large consignment of liquor.

The liquor was seized around midday as members of the Empangeni K9 Unit and Richards Bay SAPS continued with operations around the city.

Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson, Captain Debbie Ferreira, called on the community to adhere to the regulations, which among others, forbids the sale of liquor during this period.

‘The public is urged to refrain from activities that go against the regulations and to work with law enforcement authorities during this time to curb the spread of the coronavirus,’ said Ferreira.

Last week three off-duty police officers were arrested for contravening the lockdown regulations, one charged for selling alcohol.

They were all released and warned to appear in court after the lockdown.

The cluster hotline 035 9015859 or 10111 can be contacted to report Covid -19 lockdown related contraventions.
