Captain and crew go from the docks to the dock charged with attempted murder of stowaways

He and six crew members similarly accused were granted R20 000 bail each at the Durban Magistrate's Court after allegedly casting two Tanzanian stowaways overboard while the ship was en route from Durban to Richards Bay

THE captain of the bulk carrier ‘Top Grace’, presently under arrest at the inner anchor at the Port of Richards Bay, appeared in court on Wednesday facing charges of attempted murder and other statutory offences.

He and six crew members similarly accused were granted R20 000 bail each at the Durban Magistrate’s Court after allegedly casting two Tanzanian stowaways overboard while the ship was en route from Durban to Richards Bay.

The matter was adjourned to 17 April to allow the defence to make representation to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Their travel documents were seized and they remain on board the ship until the court date.
