Eleven arrested for ignoring lockdown regulations

CITY of uMhlathuze security cluster members arrested 11 people for contravening the national lockdown regulations last Friday.

The security cluster consists of SAPS, the Crime Intellegence Unit, municipal law enforcement agencies and private security companies.

Alcohol was confiscated during the raids

City Communications Manager, Mdu Ncalane, said the security cluster conducted its operation in various areas on Friday night.

‘Our law enforcement agencies made arrests in Port Durnford, KwaDlangezwa, eSikhaleni and Hillview. Several of those arrested were charged for illegally selling alcohol.’

Ncalane said the security cluster would intensify its operations to ensure everyone adheres to the regulations.

King Cetshwayo police cluster spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, said that all 11 suspects arrested were released on bail.

‘A pastor of a church in Madlankala was released on R3 000 bail after he was arrested for conducting a church service, while the other suspects were all released on bail of between R2 400 and R1 500.’
