Join the Madiba magic wash line

The ZO will erect washing lines in front of the newspaper's offices in Empangeni (Baines Road) and in the open space between the Civic Centre and the East Central Arterial in Richards Bay from 7.30am to noon

THE countdown for Mandela Day commemorations has begun, with a host of local businesses and organisations joining the Zululand Observer’s ‘Hang out with Madiba’ initiative on Thursday, 18 July to collect clothing, blankets and soft toys for the underprivileged.

Encouraging members of the public to support the collection drive, the ZO will erect washing lines in front of the newspaper’s offices in Empangeni (Baines Road) and in the open space between the Civic Centre and the East Central Arterial in Richards Bay from 7.30am to noon. This will be in partnership with the City of uMhlathuze and the Empangeni and Richards Bay Rotary clubs.

South32 Hillside Aluminium staffers Olwethu Nqabatha, Brenda Laufs, Dumi Nxumalo, Simphiwe Jhamba and Yogen Chetty erect their Hang out with Madiba washing line in preparation for the Mandela Day celebrations on Thursday, 18 July

South32 Hillside Aluminium and the King Cetshwayo District Municipality will also set up lines at their premises, while the Rotary Club in Mtunzini will be hosting a line in front of Mtunzini Primary School from 9am to noon.

The public must bring pegs along to hang up their laundry of love, which will be distributed by the ZO’s charity arm DICE (Do I Care Enough?) to needy organisations and disaster management units.

Companies are also welcome to put up their own lines and drop the clothing off at the ZO afterwards for distribution.
