eSikhaleni child rape suspect still at large

According to their mothers, the two victims, an eight-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl, are struggling to come to terms with what happened to them and are suffering from nightmares

THE two children who were allegedly sexually assaulted by a building caretaker in eSikhaleni two weeks ago, are still suffering from severe trauma.

According to their mothers, the two victims, an eight-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl, are struggling to come to terms with what happened to them and are suffering from nightmares.

‘My daughter couldn’t even go to school as she was sick. She is still traumatised and now doesn’t play with other children,’ said the girl’s mother.

The two minors were allegedly raped by the man inside his room at eDiphini cottages while their mothers were at work.

It is believed the victims suffered the ordeal several times before reporting the matter to their parents.

‘I first thought something was wrong when I found my daughter in his room.

‘I asked him what he was doing with my child, but he just said he loved children. But when I questioned my daughter she confessed to have been sexually assaulted by him.

‘He threatened to kill her if she said something,’ said the girl’s mother.

In a new twist to the case, the victims’ parents said the man had an accomplice.

A police manhunt is still under way to find the caretaker and his accomplice.

The two children are currently receiving counselling at a Thuthuzela Clinic in Ngwelezana.
