City matric dress project offers help

With a collection of more than 100 dresses, requests for support can be submitted to the foundation with the learner's contact information, special preferences and details of their special event

NOW in its fourth year, Gentle Touch Foundation’s ‘Dress a Matriculant Project’ is back on a roll and ready to help Grade 12 girls who cannot afford a ball gown for their matric dance.

With a collection of more than 100 dresses, requests for support can be submitted to the foundation with the learner’s contact information, special preferences and details of their special event.

The project, launched in 2016, saw women from across the city donate dresses over the years which underprivileged matrics from surrounding local high schools could access free of charge.

To ensure the dresses are tailored to the individual, learners are donated the dress of their choice and can alter the garment to their specific requirements.

According to project coordinator Lynette Dunn, learners should not be deprived from attending their final year dance because they cannot afford an outfit for the special occasion.

Anyone who would like more information about the project can email gentletouchf@gmail.com.
