Spend 67 minutes at the ZO Madiba lines

Join the ZO’s ‘Hang out with Madiba’ campaign on 18 July

THE Zululand Observer is gearing itself to erect mammoth charity washing lines in Empangeni and Richards Bay on Wednesday, 18 July.

Putting it all out on the line for charity, the ZO’s annual ‘Hang out with Madiba’ campaign on Nelson Mandela International Day gets underway from 7am to 12pm.

Washing lines will be erected in front of the newspaper’s offices in Empangeni (Baines Road) and in the open space between the Civic Centre and the East Central Arterial in Richards Bay.

Volunteers will be in attendance to accept used or new clothing.

All you need to do is bring along packets of pegs to hang up your laundry of love, which will be distributed via the ZO’s charity arm DICE (Do I Care Enough?) to needy organisations and disaster management units.

This year the ZO will again partner with the City of uMhlathuze and the Rotary clubs of Empangeni and Richards Bay to ensure that Zululanders devote 67 minutes of their lives in a novel and charitable way.

Over the years the initiative has seen hundreds of Zululanders peg up jackets, jerseys, scarves, beanies and blankets throughout the day.

Service clubs, school children on holiday and business owners are also invited to peg up donated items of clothing onto the extra-long washing lines.

More than 2 000 items of winter clothing were collected during previous campaigns and the aim is to double the support this year.

We invite Zululanders helping out at the ZO line to tweet us or post pics on our ZO Facebook page on the day using #ZOHangOut

See you at the washing line!
