Waterfront drug bust

Police find drugs at restaurant

A POLICE officer attending to a reported theft case at a restaurant at the Tuzi Gazi Waterfront in Richards Bay unearthed an alleged drug haul when patrons and staff were searched.

Nadia Potgieter (30) was allegedly found in possession of dependency producing substances on Tuesday night at 21.55pm.

According to Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira, Constable Nokuthula Mnguni of Operation Rescue Services (ORS) responded to a complaint of theft at the restaurant and discovered the unnamed substance during the search.

Ferreira said the substance ‘suspected to be drugs’ cannot be confirmed as yet and will be sent for forensic analysis.

Meanwhile, Potgieter appeared briefly in the Richards Bay Magistrates Court on Wednesday on a charge of possession.

The matter was postponed to Thursday (today) for legal aid application.
