Freemasons support sea rescue

The donation was handed over on Wednesday

AS part of its ongoing support of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), the Freemasons Empangeni Lodge on Wednesday donated R7 500 to the non-profit organisation.

The funds were raised at a fishing competition organised by the Empangeni Lodge at a farm in Ndundulu.

The competition is a bi-annual event and is open to anyone.

It was well attended and supported by local businesses and anglers alike.

There were various age categories and the target species were bass, bream and barbel.

Every angler went home with a prize.

‘Empangeni Lodge members have, over the years, been associated with the NSRI in various situations and the decision to give money to the NSRI was an easy one,’ said Master of the Lodge, Marais Viljoen.

‘Running an organisation such as the NSRI requires a big budget and Empangeni Lodge hopes to contribute to the station’s expenses.’

On behalf of the NSRI, Station Commander Bernard Minnie welcomed the donation and said it would definitely be put to good use.

‘We thank Empangeni Lodge members, especially Clinton Gray, for all their hard work in putting together this fishing competition, and we are extremely grateful for the generous donation.’
