Easter hijacking in Richards Bay

The incident occurred early in the evening of Good Friday

IT was not a Good Friday for two men who were hijacked at Richards Bay’s waterfront and driven north on the N2 before being kicked out of the vehicle.

The hijacking occurred at about 7.30pm last Friday, in the vicinity of the restaurants at the Small Craft Harbour.

Four suspects, two of whom were armed with firearms, held up the occupants of the Toyota Hilux double cab, bundled them in the vehicle and sped out of town.

The victims were dropped off on the side of the road at Bushlands, just south of Hluhluwe.

According to police reports, one of the suspects remained with the victims until the others had driven the vehicle further and hooted for him to join them.

Once alone, the victims made their way to the nearest homestead and were taken by community members to a local police station.

A case of car jacking is being investigated by Richards Bay detectives, but no arrests have yet been made.

The vehicle is yet to be recovered.
