Richards Bay cat owner issued with arrest warning

Richards Bay woman told she will be arrested on Friday should she not get rid of her cats

A VELDENVLEI resident has been ordered by municipal by-law enforcers to get rid of all but two of her 20 cats – or face arrest.

This after a neighbour laid a complaint.

If she is unable to secure a permit to keep all the cats, Lisa de Jager is desperate to find loving homes for those she must give away.

She said when they moved into the house, the cats were already on the premises, which borders the greenbelt.

The cats stayed on despite the new tenants, and have made their home with them.

They have until Friday to re-home the cats, but have appealed to the municipality to grant them leniency.

‘We are in possession of signed letters from everyone in the street except one neighbour, who are all happy for the cats to stay,’ said De Jager.

‘We know the SPCA is not in a financial position, or has the space, to take on so many cats at once, so we just want to find them loving homes.’

Anyone interested in adopting one of the cats, all of which are of different ages, can contact Lisa on 071 4653144.
