A 28-year-old man was arrested for the rape of his neighbour’s eight-year-old daughter in KwaMsane outside Mtubatuba on Sunday morning.
According to police, the man apparently sexually assaulted the girl in the bushes on Saturday afternoon.
The young victim was responding to the call of nature in the bushes next to her house when the incident occurred.
The girl told police the suspect was seated under a tree and forced her to undress and then sexually abused her.
The suspect threatened to kill her if she reported the rape to her mother.

Although traumatised, she did report the matter to her parents, who then informed the police.
The suspect was later arrested at his home.
The shocking incident happened a week after a 12-year-old girl in the area revealed years of sexual assault at the hands of a family member.
The victim had broken the silence in a letter to her mother which was found in her schoolbag.
In the letter the young girl explained her trauma and pain, which apparently started when she was only five years old in 2010.
The suspect is still at large, but a huge police manhunt is underway.
