WATCH: Richards Bay’s freeway-strolling crocodile caught and safely released

The croc was spotted attempting to cross the John Ross Parkway

A CROCODILE that was earlier this evening (Friday) spotted trying to cross the John Ross Parkway has been caught and safely released.

‘A friend of mine called and reported a crocodile in the middle of the John Ross,’ said Dave Pretorius, a member of the Meerensee CPF.

‘I immediately called my brother Josh and we met at the scene with the idea of catching and releasing it so no harm came to it.’

The croc was eventually caught and safely released

The 2.5m croc was on the greenbelt area in between the two carriageways in the vicinity of the turn-off to the steel bridge.

It took the Pretorius brothers about 15 minutes to swing a noose around the croc’s mouth, catch it and load it onto a vehicle for transportation.

They then released it safely in its natural habitat.

Having caught and released much bigger crocs in the past, Dave and Josh are somewhat accustomed to these creatures.
