Two life sentences for eShowe rapist

eShowe and Ezihlabathini rape cases concluded

THE eShowe Regional Court handed down two life sentences to Zamani Rambros Mkhize (43) for rapes he committed in eShowe in February last year.

The court heard how Mkhize raped two women on different occasions after promising to find them work in the area.

On 2 February, he promised a 22-year-old woman employment.

He took her to the bushes in the industrial area, claiming the path was a shortcut to the employer.

On the way, he grabbed and raped her.

He threatened to kill her if she reported the incident, but she did report it to the police and a case of rape was opened at eShowe police station, who transferred the case to the eShowe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation.

Later in the month, a similar case of rape was reported by a 21-year-old victim.

While conducting their investigation, the police discovered through DNA testing that both victims were raped by the same person.

The accused was arrested in June last year and remained in custody throughout the trial.
