Body found floating in Ulundi’s Imbilane River

POLICE have opened an inquest docket after the body of a 60-year-old man was found floating in the Imbilane River in Ulundi on Monday.

The body of Mgingqana Sibiya was spotted by a local resident opposite the Caltex garage along the R66.

The resident alleges that Sibiya was a homeless man who used to collect water from the river every day.

Police spokesperson Nkosie Gwala said Search and Rescue Unit divers from Empangeni, led by Warrant Officer Herbst, retrieved the body.

Gwala said there were no visible signs of injuries.

‘At this stage we have not established the circumstances surrounding his drowning, but we have opened an inquest docket to investigate.’
