The suspect was identified as a police officer from outside the region

A BRACKENHAM resident is counting his losses – running into thousands of rands – after a head-on crash in Goldenfern street, Richards Bay, last Sunday evening.

Vishen Chetty was driving with a passenger in his vehicle at about 6.20pm when another vehicle, a grey Jetta, drove head-on into his car at high speed.

Passenger Dashnee Anamalay said their vehicle overturned from the impact. The driver of the Jetta fled the scene.

Both occupants were taken to hospital for treatment and the vehicle damage is estimated at about R40 000.

Shortly thereafter the same grey Jetta almost forced another vehicle off the road along the N2, but the driver managed to avoid a collision and drove to eNseleni Police Station to report the incident.

The suspect, Davalani Padayachee, later identified as a police officer, was arrested and appeared in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court last Monday on charges of inconsiderate driving.

The case was remanded to 2 October for further investigation.
