THE Empangeni Regional Court on Thursday sentenced two eNseleni men to time behind bars for their joint rape of a minor in 2014.
Mbuyiseni Ndebele (29) and Sipho Mhlongo (29) each received a 15-year prison sentence after being found guilty of raping a 14-year-old.
According to police records, the victim had been visiting her mother in eNseleni when the two men accosted her.
They told her to buy them cigarettes and chips from a nearby shop and, on her return, forced her into their bedroom where they took turns raping her.
A case of rape was immediately opened at Empangeni Police Station and the docket sent to the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for investigation.
A thorough police investigation led to the arrest of the two men.
KZN Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, praised the FCS investigators for sending a well-prepared docket to court, which led to the successful prosecution of the accused.
‘Abuse of women and children cannot be tolerated in our province,’ he said.
