Men’s march in eSikhaleni condemns women and children abuse

Hundreds march against crime

NOT in our name!

That was the message from the King Cetshwayo District Men’s Forum as hundreds of community members took to the streets of eSikhaleni to highlight the abuse of women and children.

The march, which commenced at the Bhambatha Hostel and ended at the eSikhaleni police station, was addressed by various community leaders, including District Deputy Mayor Alice Mthembu,District Speaker Khulani Hadebe, City of uMhlathuze Speaker Mfundo Mthenjana and District Chairperson of the Community Services Portfolio Committee, Jabu Vilakazi.

uMlalazi Men’s Forum Chairman Phelelani Zulu said they were disturbed by the recent killings of women and children in the district.

‘We are here to call for an end to abduction and killings of people in general. We say no to albinism and xenophobic attacks.

‘We are concerned about the leniency of law enforcement agencies on those who are selling drugs and alcohol to children. We have also noted the dragging on of court cases pertaining to women and children abuse.

‘We demand harsher sentences to all perpetrators and our view is that they must not be given bail during trial,’ Zulu said.

Accepting a memorandum, eSikhaleni Station Commander, Colonel Vusi Mthimkhulu, commended the community for speaking out against crime.

‘We wish to thank you for taking up this initiative, but also wish to assure you that we will do follow-ups on cases that have been dragging on for a long time. We cannot win the battle against crime alone. We need your support,’ he said.
