eSikhaleni family struggling after fire incident

Still no relief for Jele family after their house burned down two weeks ago

AFTER the blaze ripped through their home and destroyed all their belongings two weeks ago, an eSikhaleni family of seven is struggling to start over.

Not only is this family faced with a predicament of finding a new shelter, but their five children might be unable to attend school.

This after all their school uniforms, books and study materials went up in smoke when the fire broke out and gutted their home at Reserve 18.

Speaking to the Zululand Observer last week, the distraught homeowner and grandmother Lindeni Jele (49) said the family is still struggling to get support to rebuild their home.

‘My main worry is that these children need education, but without uniform and their books, they can’t attend school. I worry about their future and hope for some divine intervention,’ said Lindeni.

Even though Lindeni and family received temporary shelter with their neighbour, she said new owners will have to move into the house in two weeks which will leave her family destitute.

‘They have been so kind to me by offering their home, but they have already sold the house and I am afraid in three weeks we might be living on the streets,’

Lindeni lives with her three daughters who are 16, 18 and 21 years old.

She also has to take care of her three young grandchildren, who also need to attend school.

‘I want my children to get education, and be something. I hope we will get help and they can continue with their school which will provide them with a bright future,’

Last week, residents and City of uMhlathuze representatives provided the family with food parcels and mattresses.
