‘Brace yourselves: More rain on the way!’ – SA Weather Service

KZN disaster management teams remain on ‘high alert'

WITH heavy rains anticipated by the SA Weather Service (SAWS) throughout the week, there is likelihood of localised flooding in certain parts of the province – particularly in its vulnerable low-lying areas.

The KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube has placed disaster management teams on alert across the province, as heavy rainfall continues.

‘We are not going to take any chances,’ she said.

‘We are pulling all the stops to prevent loss of life and damage to property, and we would like to assure our citizens that disaster management teams are ready to respond to any disaster that may be triggered by these downpours,’ said Dube-Ncube.

Dube-Ncube has once again issued a plea to the people of KZN to continue to conserve water.

‘Don’t be deceived by the current rainfall – because the province is not yet out of the woods when it comes to the underlying drought that has plagued KZN since at least 2014.’
