Most wanted suspects in shoot out with cops

All three men are suspected to have been involved in murders, carjackings, house robberies, cross border crimes, taxi industry assassinations and faction fighting in KZN and Gauteng

THREE men wanted for a spate of violent crimes including rape, carjacking and armed robbery were involved in a fierce gun battle with police after being cornered on Tuesday.

The Zululand Observer can report that one suspect, Sandile ‘Sosha’ Mjadu was wounded during the shootout, and died in an ambulance while being transported to Ngwelezana Hospital.

Two other suspects, Sbongakonke ‘Dada’ Cebekhulu and Sthembiso Ndaba were arrested at the scene.

At around 10.30am, members of the the King Cetshwayo Crime Intelligence unit together with Empangeni police and the Durban Special Task Force (STF) unit conducted an operation in the Cinci area near KwaMbonambi.

This after information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects was shared with officers.

All three men are suspected to have been involved in murders, carjackings, house robberies, cross border crimes, taxi industry assassinations and faction fighting in KZN and Gauteng.

According to one intelligence officer, the suspects were on the run from police for nearly three years, but continued to commit crime after serious crime.

‘During the operation, a cross fire between the members of the STF and the suspects occurred,’ said the officer.

‘One suspect was seriously injured and he later passed away on the way to hospital.’
Cebekhulu and Ndaba were both arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and attempted murder of police officers.

Three 9mm pistols, a 12 gauge shotgun as well as a .22 rifle were seized at the scene.

According to the officer Cebekhulu has at least six of warrants issued to appear in different Zululand courts on charges of armed robbery, house robbery, rape, kidnapping, carjacking and assault – while the possibility of linking him to more cases is likely.

Both suspects are due to appear in the KwaMbonambi Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday) while police say more arrests and recoveries are imminent.
