POLICE are on the hunt for five suspects who robbed a jewellery store in Sanlam Centre in Empangeni this morning.
According to Empangeni SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdalose, at approximately 10.15am this morning five suspects entered NWJ Jewellery, one suspect armed with a handgun while the rest wielded hammers.
‘An undisclosed amount of jewellery was taken and a case of business robbery has been opened.’
According to a source who witnessed the events unfold, the suspects used their hammers to break the glass casings in which the jewellery was being kept.
Another source alleged that the getaway vehicle used in the robbery was a Ford hatchback.
NWJ store management declined to comment.
